Shopping will look different for many stores amid the coronavirus pandemic, but the retail giant announced Wednesday how it will change based on evolving customer needs.

Three key areas of Walmart’s updated experience include earlier holiday shopping deals, increased online sales, thousands of new staff hires and in-store safety guidelines.

As shopping interests have shifted toward “new normal” essentials, such as athleisure, sleepwear, exercise equipment and outdoor needs, Walmart is also making sure to increase inventory on these unexpected gifts.

Walmart is getting ready for a different holiday season amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The retail giant announced plans Wednesday to meet the demands of increased online shopping, gift availability and how it is preparing stores for “safe shopping.”

Walmart is “promising an all-new Black Friday experience” and says it “will spread traditional Black Friday savings throughout the season” with more deals available online.

Ocado sales surge amid shift to online shopping

Online grocer Ocado saw its sales rocket more than 50% in the third quarter of the year as more customers used it in lockdown.

Sales at Ocado Retail, its joint venture with Marks & Spencer, and previously Waitrose, were £587.3m in the 13 weeks to 30 August.

The firm said growth was stronger than in the second quarter, while weekly orders stood at 345,000, up almost 10%.

It comes as more people shop online because of the pandemic.
