Shoppers are being urged to buy early this year for online Christmas gifts.

With three months to go before the big day, the online retail industry is gearing up for a a huge surge in demand.

It’s warning that firms may struggle to cope if we leave all our festive shopping till the last minute.

“We think the volumes are going to be really very excessive this year,” said Andy Mulcahy from IMRG, the industry body for online retailers.

Walmart promises ‘all-new Black Friday experience’ with earlier savings and more online deals, seeks 20K seasonal workers

Walmart is getting ready for a different holiday season amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The retail giant announced plans Wednesday to meet the demands of increased online shopping, gift availability and how it is preparing stores for “safe shopping.”

Starboard touts operational know-how in shopping for SPAC target

BOSTON (Reuters) – For 17 years Jeffrey Smith, the co-founder of activist investment firm Starboard Value LP, has been telling public companies he and his team can help improve their operations. Now he is saying the same thing to private companies.

Ocado sales surge amid shift to online shopping

Online grocer Ocado saw its sales rocket more than 50% in the third quarter of the year as more customers used it in lockdown.

Sales at Ocado Retail, its joint venture with Marks & Spencer, and previously Waitrose, were £587.3m in the 13 weeks to 30 August.

The firm said growth was stronger than in the second quarter, while weekly orders stood at 345,000, up almost 10%.

It comes as more people shop online because of the pandemic.
